JOB

October 1, 2024

Today’s readings:

Job 3:1-3,11-17,20-23

Psalm 88:2-8

In Ecclesiastes we saw that there is a time for everything, involving diametrically opposite situations, such as war and peace, as well as mourning and dancing. This is what Job experienced. He was prosperous and had a very nice family. But due to the assaults of Satan, done with God’s permission, Job lost everything. He lost all his possessions. He lost his health. He lost his family, except his wife, who nagged him, saying: “Curse God and die!”

A TIME TO HOPE

September 27, 2024

Today’s readings:

Ecclesiastes 3:1-11

Psalm 144:1-4

Luke 9:18-22

Qoheleth tells us, “There is an appointed time for everything, and a time for every affair under the heavens.” (Eccl 3:1). He goes on to cite the different events of life, looking at opposites—life and death, weeping and laughing, love and hate, war and peace (Eccl 3:2-8). He further says that “God has made everything appropriate to its time” but that we humans are unable to grasp the beginning or end of what He does (Eccl 3:11). Thus all is vanity.

HOPE WITH EACH NEW DAY

September 26, 2024

Today’s readings:

Ecclesiastes 1:2-11

Psalm 90:3-6,12-14,17

Our theme for 2025 is “Hope Abounds.” In the midst of the great turmoil in the world today, together with darkness and trials that can enter into our lives, we can still be at peace and rejoice, because God is always there, loving us and caring for us. In the face of great evil in the world, we need never fear, for God is with us.

THEME FOR 2025

The year 2025 will be a Jubilee Year in our Church. It has been proclaimed as a Year of Hope. This is particularly relevant in the face of unprecedented troubles in the world today, leaving many people feeling hopeless and helpless. We indeed are pilgrims in the world, just passing through, on our way to our eternal home. But while in this life, we live in a valley of tears. The 2025 Church Jubilee has the theme “Pilgrims of Hope.”
